- Recommended use or purpose:
- Helps relieve symptoms associated with menopause. Black Cohosh is used in Herbal Medicine to help relieve muscle and joint pain associated with rheumatic conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and/or fibrositis), and of pain associated with neuralgia (such as sciatica). Used in Herbal Medicine as a hormone normaliser to help stabilize menstrual cycle irregularities. Used in Herbal Medicine to help relieve symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flushes.

- Cautions and Warnings
- Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking hormone replacement therapy; hormonecontaining medications, such as progesterone preparations; oral contraceptives, or anticoagulant drugs (such as warfarin). Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen. Do not use if you currently have or previously have had breast cancer or if you have a predisposition to breast cancer such as abnormal mammogram and/or biopsy, or a family member with a breast cancer. Consult a heath care practitioner prior to use if you have a personal history of hormonal or gynecological disease including ovarian cancer, endometriosis and/or uterine fibroids. Discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner if you experience breast pain, discomfort, soreness and/or tenderness, abnormal uterine bleeding including spotting and/or recurrence of menstruation in postmenopausal women. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have a peptic ulcer. Do not use if you have a liver or gallbladder disorder, and/or bowel obstruction. Discontinue use if you develop symptoms of liver trouble. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use is you are taking thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, ultraviolet (UV) light or UV therapy. If you have or are pre-disposed to cancer, consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use. Discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner if you experience increased menstrual bleeding time. If you have diabetes or glucose intolerance, consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use. Before use, ensure that you are up-to-date on appointed clinical tests such as mammograms and endometrial ultrasounds/biopsies. If you are taking hormone-containing medications such as progesterone preparations, consult a health care practitioner prior to use.
- Contra-Indications
- Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not take if you have a fever or diarrhea. Do not use if you are attempting to conceive unless you have consulted with a health care practitioner.
- Known Adverse Reactions
- May increase fertility. May cause allergy; Discontinue use if signs of sensitivity (ie. allergy), nausea, diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms occur.
