Product information
From Health Canada
Note - The product information found within this database originates from organizations not subject to the Official Languages Act and is available in the language in which it was written and submitted to Health Canada.
Note - The market status of a product is now available in the LNHPD and identifies if a product is "marketed" or "not marketed" in Canada. Product licence holders may voluntarily provide the Natural and Non-Prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) with information about whether their product is currently available to Canadian consumers. Where no information has been provided, the default status is "not marketed". The "current status" field remains unaffected and will continue to indicate the status of the product licence (i.e., active, discontinued, stop sale, cancelled, or suspended). Note that where a licence has been suspended, cancelled or under stop sale, the product cannot be legally sold in Canada.
Product licence holders - if you wish to update a product's market status, you are invited to complete the Natural Health Products Market Notification Web Form. As with all other notifications, there is no current service standard. The NNHPD will process the market status update as soon as feasible, based on its available resources. As a reminder, market notification is voluntary; therefore, a licence holder is not required to wait for the LNHPD to be updated before a licensed product is sold in Canada. As such, products that are identified in the LNHPD as "not marketed" may still be sold in Canada.

- Recommended use or purpose:
- NICORETTE(R) Lozenge is a medicine that can help you stop smoking by reducing withdrawal symptoms and nicotine cravings. NICORETTE(R) Lozenge is a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) that can help double your chances of quitting successfully. NICORETTE(R) Lozenge provides a lower level of nicotine to your blood than cigarettes and allows you to slowly decrease your body's need for nicotine. It works as a temporary aid to help you quit smoking by reducing nicotine withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, frustration, anxiety, difficulty in concentration and restlessness. Without these powerful urges for the cigarettes you "need", getting rid of the "habit" cigarettes becomes much easier. The good news is that NICORETTE(R) Lozenge contains no tar or carbon monoxide, and therefore doesn't present the same medical risks as cigarettes. NICORETTE(R) Lozenge can be used to quit immediately or to quit gradually by reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke each day before making a quit attempt. Although smoking cessation is preferable, it can also be used in cases in which you temporarily refrain from smoking, for example, in smoke-free areas or in other situations when you wish to avoid smoking. Combination Nicotine Replacement Therapy - patch + as needed lozenge versus the nicotine patch or lozenge alone is: o Clinically proven to increase your chances of quitting. o A clinically proven approach to increase your chances of quitting. oIf you have relapse or experience tough/intense cravings or failed with lozenge alone, you can use NICORETTE® lozenge with the patch at the same time to increase your chances of quit success. o Now you can have the combined support of NICODERM® patch and NICORETTE® as needed lozenge products together, for a successful quit. o Tackle cravings: NICODERM® (patch) for slow release constant support and NICORETTE as needed lozenge for an extra quick fix/dose when you really need to fight back the cravings / when something triggers intense cravings. o Combination therapy is 18%/1.18x more effective than using one Nicotine Replacement Therapy product alone. o Use NICODERM® patch + NICORETTE® lozenge together to increase your chance of quitting.
